TEMPORARY CLOSING OF PUBLIC ROADS
Pursuant to Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, & Article 12 of the Roads Regulations 1994,
notice is hereby given that Cork County Council proposes to temporarily close
the following road for the period and reason specified below:
Roads Subject of Proposed Closure
L6572 Haye’s Hill between Middle Road and Lower Road & the R612 Middle Road between Upper Road
and Steps from Upper Road to Middle Road/ Steps from Middle Road to Lower Road, Crosshaven, Co. Cork.
Period of Proposed Closure
From 08h00 to 18h00 (Daily Closure) from Tuesday 29th October, 2024 to Friday 1st November, 2024.
Reason for Proposed Closure
To facilitate resurfacing and traffic calming works as part of Scoil Bhríde Safe Routes to School Project.
Alternative Routes
Via R612 Lower Road, L2498 The Square, L2500 Graball Road, L6420 Brightwater, R612 Middle Road
The stated diversion route is applicable in reverse when travelling in the opposite direction.
Local access will be maintained throughout the duration of the Road Closure.

BARRY'S CENTRA
CROSSHAVEN CHALLENGE
TRIATHLON 2024
14th September 2024 at 15h00 (3pm)
Since commencing in 2003 the Centra Crosshaven Challenge Triathlon has gone from strength to strength. It has gone from hosting 7 teams of 3 athletes, to last year accommodating over 300 triathletes, making it one of the most successful triathlons in the country. It is also now recognised as one of the best run events on the triathlon calendar.
The event is sponsored by Barry's Centra Crosshaven, and all funds raised from the Triathlon are donated to local Charities, Groups, Clubs and initiatives, to aid the development of our local community. To date the Centra Crosshaven Challenge has raised over €200,000 for the local community and this year’s entries will increase the total fund further.
The Triathlon consists of a 500-meter swim followed by 10 kilometre cycle finishing with a 5 kilometre run, The event caters for all standards and includes some of the top tri-athletes in the country as well as first time competitors and people out to enjoy themselves.
THE START LINE
Hugh Coveney Pier, Lower Road, Crosshaven.
The Swim 500 Meters
Swimmers meet at the Hugh Coveney Pier in Crosshaven (next to the RNLI station) they will be ferried across by boat to the Currabinny Pier were the swim will start. Swimmers will then swim back and finish at the Hugh Coveney Pier in Crosshaven where the will cross the timing transition and the Cycle will begin.
The Cycle 10k
The cycle will start at the Hugh Coveney Pier in Crosshaven, as you exit the pier you will turn right and continue out the road as far as O’Learys Cross which is well signalled as the cycle turning point. Return along the same road back to the Hugh Coveney Pier where you will cross your timing transition and the run will begin.
The Run 5k
The run will begin at Hugh Coveney Pier and continue into Crosshaven village. Circle the roundabout clockwise (same as if you where driving) and head back out of the village(stewards will be in place to direct you) continue back out of the village using the higher road as you approach the post office/Admiral Drake (as not to clash with incoming cyclists) out to lime kiln corner. Here you will circle the turning point sign and stewards will direct you back toward Crosshaven finishing the run outside Centra.

Vacancy Details as follows
We are currently looking to recruit either a male or a female to join our TEAM. To be eligable you must live and/or work (mostly) within 2.5kms of our Station (Unless rostered off). If you are employed elsewhere but working from home in Crosshaven & can drop & go when the pager activates you may also qualify to join. If you are unemployed you will most likely qualify &/or maintain your social welfare payment. The closing time and date for applications is 16h00 on the 14 August 2024. The Fire Service is an excellent source for secondary income. We average 75 calls per year, 1.5 per week approx but you might not get a call for 3 weeks and then 3 in one day. We do train (& earn) most Monday's (evening) of the month so skills and camaraderie are maintained. If you have an interest & aptitude to serve our community please consider joining.
All training is provided and you are paid well for all courses. These include but are not limited to;
Recruits Course. This is a 3 weeks course (basic Firefighter skills, Hoses. ladders, hydrants, fall arrest etc., once complete you are on the run & get your very own pager!)
BA - Breathing Apparatus. A 2 weeks - safe air supply much like SCUBA but it's the smoke we are keeping out not water!
CFBT (Compartment Fire Behaviour training) One of our favourite of all where you get trained & experience in recognising flashovers, backdrafts & controlling internal fires.
C Licence training to allow you drive our 14 tonne Appliance (Truck)!
ESDS - Emergency Service Driving Standard Training you to become a competent & responsible emergency driver - driving a 14tn vehicle to call outs requires great skill, judgement & confidence.
Pump Operator. A 1 week, learn all about pumps, main and portable, water supplies from hydrants, streams, pools. How to get water supply & transfer it to the Fire area.
Basic First Aid & also First Responder. A great life skill to have, for your community, neighbourhood, family, know what to do when someone needs immediate help.
Hazardous Materials. This is a 1 week course, we are second pump to Ringaskiddy where large Pharma is based & despite robust regulation & good safety systems at these plants we need to know what to do in the event of an incident.
RTC - Road traffic collision training. How to safely deal with & resolve these incidents using an array of tools & equipment, from Hydraulic cutters & spreaders to battery saws, impact drivers & basic hand tools.
Most of our courses are QQI accredited or Governed by RSA, PHECC etc. Real world qualifications & Accreditations that will add greatly to your life & career.
So are you a committed & eager individual, willing to learn (and get paid for) a whole new career? - JOIN US & Make a difference. The closing time and date for applications is 16h00 on the 14 August, 2024.

VOLVO CORK WEEK 2024
15th to 19th July 2024.
Racing at Volvo Cork Week 2024 begins on Monday 15th July and will continue daily until Friday 19th July 2024.
Event entry numbers have been steadily climbing since the entry was opened, with entries received from
all over the country as well as overseas.
The championship fleet boasts a fine array of race boats, including high performance carbon fibre flyers
to Quarter Tonners. Racing in sportsboats at Volvo Cork Week will be the 1720 Class for the European Championship,
the phenomenal Cape31 Class, and new this year, the RS21 Class with boats available for charter.
For those new to racing or for cruising boats that don’t want to bring a massive crew,
the non-spinnaker / White Sail Class offers an ideal programme to enjoy.
The Beaufort Cup is a unique inter-services regatta, hosted by the Irish Defence Forces in conjunction with the RCYC.
The race provides offshore and inshore racing as an inter-services regatta within Volvo Cork Week.

Ocean to City – An Rás Mór is Ireland’s very own long-distance rowing race attracting hundreds
of participants annually. Started in 2005, it has grown from its origin as a race for traditional fixed-seat
boats into an all-inclusive rowing and paddling event, embracing everything from traditional wooden working boats,
currachs, skiffs, gigs and longboats to contemporary ocean racing shells, kayaks, canoes and even stand-up paddle boards.
With thousands of spectators each year, the race is a real flagship event for Cork Harbour; one of the largest natural
harbours in the world. An Rás Mór (The Big Race) appeals to a wide range of rowers and paddlers from across Ireland
and beyond. It includes races over four course distances: the 28km (15nm) Ocean Course, 22km (12nm) City Course,
13km (7nm) Monkstown Course and the 4km (2nm) Youth Course – all finishing to a warm welcome in Cork’s city centre.

The Department of Transport wishes to advise that it has re-established a Panel of Surveyors to conduct surveys of
Small Fishing Vessels of less than 15m, to check for compliance with the Department’s Code of Practice for such vessels.
This panel is established from 25 January 2024 until 24 January 2027
